At the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023, a group of regional leaders gathered in East Nusa Tenggara to observe a picturesque sunset from a Pinisi boat on the waters of the Labuan Bajo pier. The activity was initiated and hosted by Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo, who was accompanied by his wife, Iriana Joko Widodo.
ASEAN leaders, including the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Hassanal Bolkiah, and Prime Ministers from Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, were all in attendance. The group was seated in a circle around a table on the boat’s deck, with President Jokowi and the First Lady taking the center seats.
After a brief photo session, the Pinisi ship sailed further into the waters of Labuan Bajo pier to allow the leaders to enjoy the sunset. Following the sunset viewing, President Jokowi was set to host a banquet dinner for all ASEAN leaders at Ayana Komodo Waecicu Beach. This activity aligned with his goal to showcase Labuan Bajo to the world.
